What Is #57 Stone?

#57 stone is generally around 1 to 2 inches in size. Because it is larger, it creates a strong and stable surface that works well for:

• Base material beneath smaller stone

For a new parking area or driveway extension, #57 stone is normally the better choice because the larger pieces create a stronger foundation. Proper ground preparation, landscape fabric and compaction may also be recommended depending on the property.

What Is #89 Stone?

#89 stone is smaller, generally around 3/8 to 3/4 inch. It creates a smoother finished appearance and is easier to walk on.

It is commonly used for:

• Landscaping around plants

• Creating a smoother top layer

If your driveway already has a solid base but needs a fresh appearance, #89 stone may be the better option.
